Eduardo Pimentel Arruda born in Ribeira Seca, Sao Miguel Azores passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family in Vancouver, BC at the age of 81. He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his loving wife Flavia Arruda of 57 years and his 3 children; Rodney Arruda (Lisa), Suzy Ormonde (Herculano); and Janice Cabral (Josh). Along with his 6 grandchildren Joshua, Alicia (Chris), Jesse (Jaya), Tristan, Julia, Cruz and his sister Esmeria Rego and many nieces, nephews, godchildren, and extended family in Vancouver, Terrace, Toronto, Massachusetts and Terceira, Azores.
Eduardo will be fondly remembered in the Portuguese community for his sense of humor, fierce love of family and friends, his helping hands and his charismatic ability to light up any room. He had a love and passion for music and dancing and specifically the Portuguese “Cantoria” style of music from his beloved hometown of Terceira, Azores. Throughout his journey with his illness (Lewy body dementia and kidney disease), he was still able to continue to find happiness and comfort through music and people and bring so much joy to the hearts of all those who surrounded him. For the last 3 years our family has been blessed to know that he was being lovingly supported by the staff at Columbus Residence in Vancouver, where he felt so at home and deeply connected to the staff and residents. In his heart they were his friends and co-workers and family. We appreciate all of the care and support that dad and our family received during his final years and throughout his illness.
Please join us in celebrating Eduardo Arruda’s beautiful life on:
Monday December 4th at 10:00 am (Rosary in Portuguese) and 10:30am (Mass in English) at
Our Lady of Fatima Parish located at 1423 East 13th Avenue in Vancouver, BC.
Christian Burial to follow at Mountain View Cemetery (Fraser & 41st) in Vancouver.
The family kindly requests in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Columbus Residence, the non-profit long term care home that Dad loved so much and where they cared for him with so much dignity and compassion. Donations go towards music therapy (which he loved), recreation therapy (dads favorite bus trips!) and spiritual care for residents.
