A bright candle flickered out at 7 p.m. on December 7, 2024, when Glenna Barron passed away following a hard-fought, six-month battle with an aggressive cancer. She died peacefully at home in the company of her husband Steve and other beloved friends.

Cherished spouse, treasured friend, and creative spirit, she was kind and deeply caring, known for brightening people’s lives. Despite her own chronic health challenges and disability, she always thought of others before herself.

Glenna’s list of interests and talents was long and varied.

A graduate of Simon Fraser University with a degree in Biophysics, she remained inquisitive and curious throughout her life, applying her scientific brain to all her endeavours and areas of interest.

She was a gifted artist, regularly creating unique digital art gifts and jewelry for friends and loved ones. The home she and Steve built 30 years ago is itself a testament to her artistic taste and talents.

She loved living in the Village of Anmore. She volunteered as a journalist for the Anmore Times for many years, reporting and writing stories for the print version and Facebook page. She loved gardening and was an active member of the Anmore Garden Club until the COVID pandemic disrupted all our lives.

Glenna enjoyed spending time outdoors and exploring the back country with her husband Steve in their Land Rover. She and Steve were long-time members of The Rover-Landers of BC. They were participants and instructors at the BC Overland Rally and the Northwest Overland Rally every year, until her cancer was diagnosed in June. She was also a licensed Amateur Radio Operator (HAM) for many years with a sophisticated ‘radio shack’ in her home and a 70-foot radio tower in her backyard.

Glenna was an exceptionally good cook and loved creating and experimenting with new vegetarian recipes at home. She prepared gourmet meals and treats while in the back country and shared her techniques and knowledge with attendees at overland rallies as well as through stories and recipes published in Overland Journal.

Glenna also loved her cats, especially male orange longhair tabby cats, sharing her home with two at a time throughout most of her adult life.

With all her activities and talents, Glenna’s primary focus was always the welfare of the many friends she made along the way, who will remember her for the hugs she generously doled out, the long chats she had with them, the puns she made, her sense of humour and her incredibly bright spirit.

Glenna and Steve’s friends and neighbours are invited to attend drop-in open houses at their home on January 11 and 12, 2025 between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. Contact Steve by phone or text at 604-328-6702 for street address, parking and other details.

Tribute :We met Glenna 20 years ago when we became neighbors and friends. Glenna was everything that others have said – funny, interesting, creative, smart, and generous. She was also incredibly courageous in the face of physical disabilities , and health issues. Even in our last visit. A few weeks ago, sitting outside, wrapped in a red coat and blanket to stay warm, glenna maintained her sense of humor and her lively personality in the face of incredible pain and discomfort. I loved Glenna and I will miss her. Linda Weinberg.

Tribute :My Dear Sweet Glenna, it has been 17 days since you were taken from me. I am comforted by the outpouring of love from the many friends who loved you. There will be celebrations of your like in January, in our home. I tink you would approve. Today is Christmas Eve. As tomorrow approaches, I will remember last Christmas as one of our best ever because of the things we did to make last year extra special. Who knew it would be our last Christmas together? The house is now quiet without you but I feel your presence in every corner. I was blessed to have been your husband for each and every year of our 40 years of marriage. I love deeply you and I will never stop missing you. Your Stevie.
