Humberto Da Ponte Medeiros, born in Lagoa, Sao Miguel, Acores, passed away
peacefully on January 1st, 2015 in Vancouver at the age of 73. Predeceased by
his brother Francisco and his sister Fernanda, he will be lovingly remembered
by his wife of 49 years, Virginia (Placido), his daughters, Gabriela (Mark) and
Carla (Gary) and by his three biggest joys, his grandsons, Joshua, Tanner and
Kurtis. He will be missed by his sister Rosaria (Manuel) in Boston, and his
sisters in law and brother in laws, nephews and nieces in Vancouver, Acores,
Massachusetts and Portugal.
Humberto grew up in Lagoa on the
island of Sao Miguel. At 20, he moved to
Mocambique with the army, and subsequently married the love of his life at 24. He spent the next 10 years creating a life in
Mocambique, in both Vila Pery and Mafambice, then immigrated to Vancouver,
Canada in 1975 with his wife and young daughters. Humberto once again created a
life in Vancouver, where he has been a well known member of the Portuguese
community for many years. He will be sadly missed by many people who have known
him over the 40 years he lived and worked in the Lower Mainland. Known for his
friendly smile, he was always willing to lend a helping hand, in any capacity
he could. His generosity and genuine caring
for others was appreciated by many.
Prayers will be at our Lady of Fatima Church, on Monday, January 5th, 2015,
at 6:00 pm, with mass immediately following at 6:30 pm.
