It is with deepest sadness that we announce the passing of John Michael Mendzat. John passed away on Tuesday, August 25 at the age of 62, after a difficult and courageous 16 month battle with cancer. John was born in Edmonton, Alberta and moved to BC in 1990 to begin his 21 year career as a Professional Portrait Photographer. He went back to school at the age of 59 to receive his Community Mental Health Worker certificate from Douglas College and then went on to start his second career as a mental health rehabilitation care provider at Riverview Hospital. Although he loved working in his new career, photography remained a very important and enjoyable part of his life. He was an avid reader and had a keen interest in bird watching and hiking throughout the Fraser Valley. John is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 25 years, Isabel Mendzat (Raposo). Also his brothers Barry, Mike, Joe, Phil and his sister Maryanne. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Assumption Church 3141 Shaughnessy Street, in Port Coquitlam, on Tuesday, September 1st at 10:00 AM. Flowers or donations may be made in memory of John to the BC Cancer Agency.
